Staphylococcus saprophyticus
Staphylococcus saprophyticus is a Gram-positive bacterium considered to be the second causative agent of UTI, which is of notable clinical importance for triggering persistent and recurrent infections in young sexually active women. Comparative proteomic and genomic studies have been conducted in some species of the Staphylococcus genus in order to elucidate common and distinct pathways in strains with different phenotypic characteristics. Our group focuses on elucidating the virulence clinic used by S. saprophyticus as well as the characterization of antigens and identification and epitopes that may be important for diagnostic targets.
